It’s January! A magical month, signaling a new year-a new you! January is an eventful month, not only is it Ellen DeGeneres, and Oprah’s birthdays but also a month filled with festivals and brunch here in Boston.
So strap yourself in and read on to some events I have for you.
L. Street Brownies Take the Annual Plunge– Jan 1
The L Street Brownies have been taking a plunge into the icy waters of Dorchester and raising money for charities since 1904. About 600 to 1000 swimmers participate in this New Year’s event. Its an event close to all real Bostonians so If you want real authenticity head here. When: Sunday, January 1, 2017 at 10:30am. Registration for those making the plunge starts at 9:30am. Where: L Street Bathhouse at Curley Community Center (617-635-5104), 1663 Columbia Road, Carson Beach, South Boston
BRUNCH -Jan 1
So you partied all night and then jumped into the icy waters of Dorchester…the only logical conclusion is that you did it for BRUNCH.

Boston Baroque First Day Concert– Jan 1
Boston baroque is performing Handel’s Fireworks Musix and Bach’s Violin Concerto. Most compelling reason to come (aside from the music) is the complimentary champagne and chocolates during intermission.

Lights in the Garden -Jan 4-8
Winter reimagined at Tower Hill Botanic Garden. Featuring colorful lights and decorated trees, and dinner.
Winter Celebration -Jan 7
Revels Twelfth Night Celebration has carol singing, sword dancing, a family dance, hot cider and traditional mummers (sounds fascinating).
Celtic Music Festival -Jan 13-14
Boston celtic Music festival goes big every year. They have musicians,singers and dancers from Irish, Scottish and other celtic traditions in Cambridge.
Sci-fi Convention -Jan 13-16
Arisia is a science-fiction and fantasy convention with costumes, dancing, gaming, films, and an art show at The Westin Boston Waterfront.
MLK concert & tribute -Jan 16
The Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra is performing classical music and freedom songs, with a sing-along and a key-note speaker.
Taste of East Boston – Jan 26
Taste of Eastie includes samples from over 30 local restaurants, entertainment a cash bar. Highlight: Free parking at Hilton Boston
Chocolate Festival -Jan 28
Sample chocolate from 10 businesses at the Chocolate Festival at 27 Brattle St., Cambridge. Highlight: FREE
Birding Festival -Jan 28
This is the Super Bowl of Birding, a competition to find the most species of birds. Family friendly! Fee includes registration and pizza party afterwards.
So you have birding, BRUNCH and countless Holiday festivals that sounds like a fire start to the 2017 year.
