One of the hardest lessons to learn is how to control your spending habits (shoutout to all who spend their paychecks four days after pay day). However, we at SPOT, have honed in on the top four habits to pick up to help you better manage your money.

Set clear financial goals
This is a big one. You can’t make changes until you decide what you want your end goal to be. Are you just saving up for new shoes or trying to pay back student loans? Make an outline of how much you are currently spending versus how much you are making to review the changes that will need to take place to reach your goals.

Find different ways to increase income
While this may seem like an impossible task, in today’s tech field, it really is not. In fact, check out our previous blog post to find apps that help you make extra money. One of our favorites at the moment is Wag, a dog walking app.

Save
It’s easy to get swept up in the spending culture of this country, but it’s important to set aside part of each of your paycheck. If you feel like it’s going to waste sitting in a bank, consider investing.

Be frugal
You might have heard the phrase, “Why do you think rich people are rich?” Do not spend money on the $100 shirt when you get it on sale in a couple months. Instead of Ubering everywhere because you’re running late and need to get to work now, promise to plan ahead and take the T.

Being smart with your money is not as daunting as it may seem at first glance. All it takes is a little commitment on your part to start seeing results.
