With temperatures projected to stay in the high eighties for the rest of the summer and humidity levels continuing to rise, keeping cool is the fight that seems unbeatable. We’ve tried our fair share of summer hacks to stay cool and here are our top picks.
Post up in a coffee shop
For those without AC, spend the day at a shop or the movies to beat the heat. Enjoy some snacks, drinks, and time away from the sun. The best part is that you’re not the one paying for the electricity to stay cool.
Stick your sheets in the freezer or fridge
This might seem a little too quirky, but trust us, there’s nothing better than sliding into cold sheets on a hot day.
Wear Cotton
Cotton is one of the most breathable fabrics out there. Wear it to let your skin air out. Even better, wear white for extra protection against the heat.
Sleep Low
If you live in a house with multiple floors, sleep on the lower level. Heat rises and you don’t want to be the one sweating through sheets on the third floor.
DIY AC
For those who don’t want to fork up the couple hundred for an AC unit, make one yourself. Take a shallow bucket, fill it with ice cubes, and stick it in front of a fan. As the ice begins to melt, it will evaporate into a cool mist.
Window AC
Instead of buying an AC unit, look for local garage sales, head to your nearest goodwill, or keep an eye on Craiglist. You never know when someone is moving or leaving town and needs to get rid of their AC.
